Narrative:
Flight inbound to san. While descending to 6000 ft inbound to pgy VOR, at approximately 6200 ft we received a TCASII TA followed by a TCASII warning. TCASII displayed a 1500- 2000 FPM climb required with approximately 6-8 targets on screen and traffic at 12 O'clock very close. During the pull up to about 6500 ft, we sighted a single engine aircraft at 2-2:30 O'clock and about 1/2 mi distance. TCASII displayed him to be at 5800 ft and climbing. We believed that approach control issued the traffic during our pull up. We advised approach control that we had to do an avoidance maneuver on the issued traffic. The remainder of the flight operated normally to san. Supplemental information from acn 203329: total elapsed time was about 5 seconds. Numerous targets were indicated on the TCASII screen. The system seemed to perform well. An uneventful visual approach to runway 9 was performed.

Title: ACR PERFORMS EVASIVE CLB AS TCASII GIVES RA.
Narrative: FLT INBOUND TO SAN. WHILE DSNDING TO 6000 FT INBOUND TO PGY VOR, AT APPROX 6200 FT WE RECEIVED A TCASII TA FOLLOWED BY A TCASII WARNING. TCASII DISPLAYED A 1500- 2000 FPM CLB REQUIRED WITH APPROX 6-8 TARGETS ON SCREEN AND TFC AT 12 O'CLOCK VERY CLOSE. DURING THE PULL UP TO ABOUT 6500 FT, WE SIGHTED A SINGLE ENG ACFT AT 2-2:30 O'CLOCK AND ABOUT 1/2 MI DISTANCE. TCASII DISPLAYED HIM TO BE AT 5800 FT AND CLBING. WE BELIEVED THAT APCH CTL ISSUED THE TFC DURING OUR PULL UP. WE ADVISED APCH CTL THAT WE HAD TO DO AN AVOIDANCE MANEUVER ON THE ISSUED TFC. THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT OPERATED NORMALLY TO SAN. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 203329: TOTAL ELAPSED TIME WAS ABOUT 5 SECONDS. NUMEROUS TARGETS WERE INDICATED ON THE TCASII SCREEN. THE SYS SEEMED TO PERFORM WELL. AN UNEVENTFUL VISUAL APCH TO RWY 9 WAS PERFORMED.
