Narrative:

At about 20 DME going direct to cae I as PNF saw target pop up on our TCASII at 10 mi ring. At 5 mi ring I asked shaw approach -- shaw responded it was VFR at 3500 ft 12 O'clock. We showed 3800 ft at 2 mi and traffic not in sight, I asked for vector and given turn to 270. We picked up TA, then RA which told us to climb. We climbed up to 5200 ft informing shaw approach (he acted or sounded like -- 'why the traffic was at 3500 ft). We never saw the VFR traffic. TCASII reported us clear so we returned to 4000 ft direct to cae. TCASII worked great!
