Narrative:
I was sent to aircraft to replace the first officer's audio panel. I replaced the audio panel and operationally checked out the panel, and signed off the subsequent pilot note as 'replaced audio panel, operational checks normal.' after I returned to my work area, it was brought to my attention of a recent change in equipment, aircraft #123 and subsequent, require a different audio panel. I told my crew chief about it and asked what that was about. This was the first time I was made aware of this maintenance requirement. The airplane then went to hartford where the pilots wrote up that the wrong panel was installed. The panel was replaced and no further maintenance was required. There is no maintenance alert at this time and no way for me to be made aware of this as the maintenance alert is being made up at this time. I'm writing this to let you know of this mistake. I am fully aware now of this and what caused it. I guarantee this will never happen to me again.
