Narrative:
#1 fuel tank was overfueled. Some fuel spilled out. Local airport fire crews were advised and they came to take care of fuel spill. At the time of pushback no fuel was leaking from wingtips. As we taxied out we were advised by a ground vehicle and ground control that some fuel was spilling out of left wingtip. (This concurred with #1 fuel gauge still showing full.) fuel only spilled out during right turns. We felt very sure that the fuel spilling out was coming out of the surge tank and that the fuel would stop spilling out by the time we were ready for takeoff. There was no fuel spilling out (even during right turns) at the time of takeoff. Sea fire crews followed us to keep us advised and clean up any spillage. Supplemental information from acn 204285: the #1 fuel tank was overfilled to 12800 pounds when maximum limit was 12638 pounds.
