Narrative:
Mar/xx/92 mmu ATIS information specified ADF circle to land for runway 5 and departures on runway 30. My wife (a student pilot) and I were taking neighbors for a pleasure flight around the area. This was their first experience in a small plane. After hearing the ATIS information I knew I needed to ask for permission to taxi to runway 30. However, I mistakenly asked to taxi to runway 5. To taxi to runway 5 is very short and does not require crossing any taxiways or runways. Taxiing to runway 30 required taxi on taxiway a towards the departure end of runway 23. When taxiway B is reached, a right turn on taxiway B is required. At this point you will need permission to cross runway 5 before proceeding to runway 30. Since I only had permission to taxi to runway 5, my crossing of runway 5 was an unauthorized incursion of an active runway. As is my practice, I looked for aircraft on final or on the runway. Shortly after crossing I realized my error and called ground control and advised of my intentions to taxi to runway 30. My reflections on this incursion point to inadequate control of the cabin environment. While asking for permission to taxi I should have assured I could comprehend what I was saying. My passenger should have been asked to refrain from asking questions while I was preparing to fly. It is amazing to think I was going exactly where I intended to go, but had only asked to go to the wrong place. And this was all caused by a minor distraction I did not control.

Title: RWY TRANSGRESSION DURING TAXI FOR TKOF BY PVT PLT OF SMA ACFT.
Narrative: MAR/XX/92 MMU ATIS INFO SPECIFIED ADF CIRCLE TO LAND FOR RWY 5 AND DEPS ON RWY 30. MY WIFE (A STUDENT PLT) AND I WERE TAKING NEIGHBORS FOR A PLEASURE FLT AROUND THE AREA. THIS WAS THEIR FIRST EXPERIENCE IN A SMALL PLANE. AFTER HEARING THE ATIS INFO I KNEW I NEEDED TO ASK FOR PERMISSION TO TAXI TO RWY 30. HOWEVER, I MISTAKENLY ASKED TO TAXI TO RWY 5. TO TAXI TO RWY 5 IS VERY SHORT AND DOES NOT REQUIRE XING ANY TAXIWAYS OR RWYS. TAXIING TO RWY 30 REQUIRED TAXI ON TAXIWAY A TOWARDS THE DEP END OF RWY 23. WHEN TAXIWAY B IS REACHED, A R TURN ON TAXIWAY B IS REQUIRED. AT THIS POINT YOU WILL NEED PERMISSION TO CROSS RWY 5 BEFORE PROCEEDING TO RWY 30. SINCE I ONLY HAD PERMISSION TO TAXI TO RWY 5, MY XING OF RWY 5 WAS AN UNAUTHORIZED INCURSION OF AN ACTIVE RWY. AS IS MY PRACTICE, I LOOKED FOR ACFT ON FINAL OR ON THE RWY. SHORTLY AFTER XING I REALIZED MY ERROR AND CALLED GND CTL AND ADVISED OF MY INTENTIONS TO TAXI TO RWY 30. MY REFLECTIONS ON THIS INCURSION POINT TO INADEQUATE CTL OF THE CABIN ENVIRONMENT. WHILE ASKING FOR PERMISSION TO TAXI I SHOULD HAVE ASSURED I COULD COMPREHEND WHAT I WAS SAYING. MY PAX SHOULD HAVE BEEN ASKED TO REFRAIN FROM ASKING QUESTIONS WHILE I WAS PREPARING TO FLY. IT IS AMAZING TO THINK I WAS GOING EXACTLY WHERE I INTENDED TO GO, BUT HAD ONLY ASKED TO GO TO THE WRONG PLACE. AND THIS WAS ALL CAUSED BY A MINOR DISTR I DID NOT CTL.
