Narrative:
After takeoff we were given a right turn and a new altitude by ATC while the pilot was simultaneously asking for 'half rate' on the autoplt. Normally 'half rate, flaps up, climb power' are asked for, but flaps were being left down for our turn due to insufficient airspeed. The autoplt was engaged, leveled off at 5000 ft. I noticed the airspeed increasing past 260 KTS rapidly. I said 'airspeed.' the pilot tried to correct the problem with the autoplt/autothrottles engaged. The autothrottles were disengaged at an airspeed of 300 KTS. Throttles were retarded and spoilers deployed to return to 250 KTS. The pilot said he had asked for 'climb power.' I never heard it and assumed he wanted takeoff thrust in the turn. The thrust computer will not capture the selected airspeed of 250 KTS if takeoff power is still selected.

Title: SPD DEV DURING DEP PROC.
Narrative: AFTER TKOF WE WERE GIVEN A R TURN AND A NEW ALT BY ATC WHILE THE PLT WAS SIMULTANEOUSLY ASKING FOR 'HALF RATE' ON THE AUTOPLT. NORMALLY 'HALF RATE, FLAPS UP, CLB PWR' ARE ASKED FOR, BUT FLAPS WERE BEING LEFT DOWN FOR OUR TURN DUE TO INSUFFICIENT AIRSPD. THE AUTOPLT WAS ENGAGED, LEVELED OFF AT 5000 FT. I NOTICED THE AIRSPD INCREASING PAST 260 KTS RAPIDLY. I SAID 'AIRSPD.' THE PLT TRIED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH THE AUTOPLT/AUTOTHROTTLES ENGAGED. THE AUTOTHROTTLES WERE DISENGAGED AT AN AIRSPD OF 300 KTS. THROTTLES WERE RETARDED AND SPOILERS DEPLOYED TO RETURN TO 250 KTS. THE PLT SAID HE HAD ASKED FOR 'CLB PWR.' I NEVER HEARD IT AND ASSUMED HE WANTED TKOF THRUST IN THE TURN. THE THRUST COMPUTER WILL NOT CAPTURE THE SELECTED AIRSPD OF 250 KTS IF TKOF PWR IS STILL SELECTED.
