Narrative:
First officer flying. After final vector and 'cleared for approach 26R' relief pilot and first officer try to reset a 'no land 3' condition. Successfully. For reasons not known aircraft does not capture localizer. Captain to first officer: 'you went through it. Turn back go to raw data!' approach control:' air carrier XXX turn right 310 and re-intercept.' captain to first officer: 'turn further! You are flying 280 degree, turn to 31 degree.' first officer to captain: ' I already have a 45 degree intercept heading. Something is wrong here!' captain sees first officer's CDI lined up with approximately 230-250 heading (ILS heading is 270 degrees) creating the illusion that 280 degree is a 45 degree intercept. Check ILS heading window and captain's 'raw data' find all correct except first officer's CDI. Total deviation approximately 1/2 mi left of localizer. Re-establish proper course within about 2 mi. Uneventful approach and landing. First officer's incorrect CDI indication remained 'till aircraft parked at the gate. Maintenance notified.

Title: HDG TRACK DEV.
Narrative: FO FLYING. AFTER FINAL VECTOR AND 'CLRED FOR APCH 26R' RELIEF PLT AND FO TRY TO RESET A 'NO LAND 3' CONDITION. SUCCESSFULLY. FOR REASONS NOT KNOWN ACFT DOES NOT CAPTURE LOC. CAPT TO FO: 'YOU WENT THROUGH IT. TURN BACK GO TO RAW DATA!' APCH CTL:' ACR XXX TURN R 310 AND RE-INTERCEPT.' CAPT TO FO: 'TURN FURTHER! YOU ARE FLYING 280 DEG, TURN TO 31 DEG.' FO TO CAPT: ' I ALREADY HAVE A 45 DEG INTERCEPT HDG. SOMETHING IS WRONG HERE!' CAPT SEES FO'S CDI LINED UP WITH APPROX 230-250 HDG (ILS HDG IS 270 DEGS) CREATING THE ILLUSION THAT 280 DEG IS A 45 DEG INTERCEPT. CHK ILS HDG WINDOW AND CAPT'S 'RAW DATA' FIND ALL CORRECT EXCEPT FO'S CDI. TOTAL DEV APPROX 1/2 MI L OF LOC. RE-ESTABLISH PROPER COURSE WITHIN ABOUT 2 MI. UNEVENTFUL APCH AND LNDG. FO'S INCORRECT CDI INDICATION REMAINED 'TILL ACFT PARKED AT THE GATE. MAINT NOTIFIED.
