Narrative:
Flight, large transport, was radar vectored to intercept J70 prior to intercept captain's (PF) FMGC #1 had a momentary timeout. System reset to normal, with indications that all was normal, when in reality captain's navigation display was latched to #2 FMGC. When navigation display range was selected to monitor intercept, #1 navigation display lost map display. Switching back to navigation, received ATC heading for on course. Flight was probably 3-5 mi off course due to the time to discover problem with aircraft navigation display, showing FMGC operation normal. Logbook entry made and reported to maintenance, according to aircraft manual. Problem is presently under study.
