Narrative:
ATC advised us of VFR small aircraft Y traffic at 17500 opposite direction traffic. We were IMC and advised ATC of such. We saw traffic on TCASII approaching at 12 O'clock. When traffic was approximately 1 mi in front of us the TCASII showed traffic at 17400 ft and descending. We turned right as the TCASII displayed a RA to descend. At all times, we were in instrument conditions and at no time did we ever sight the traffic visually, the TCASII showed traffic at 400 ft above us and less than 1 mi. We continued the trip without further incident.
