Narrative:
Cleared for visual approach runway 5 ZZZ at night. We received traffic information from ATC. 'A helicopter at 2 O'clock has you in sight, landing at hospital near approach course.' we never did see the traffic but we did get a TCASII RA to climb. We did climb, but were able to continue approach after clear of traffic from TCASII. After landing my first officer questioned tower about traffic being so close and informed him we had a TCASII RA. Both ATC and the first officer had a short but heated argument. My first officer was out of line for his tone of voice, but also ATC took offense to TCASII and it's use in the air traffic system. I have been finding that ATC in general is not too fond of TCASII because it takes away from their authority. In this case everything worked as it should.
