Narrative:
I departed summit airport (N92) en route to red lion (N73) at approximately XY11 local time. Initial climb to 2000 ft and turned to a heading of 090 degrees. I was having trouble identing the ood VOR when I looked up and saw the small transport pass immediately in front of me. I hit his wake turbulence immediately afterwards. I contacted the pilot via radio. He said they had me in sight and were waiting for me to 'break off' (my heading 090 degrees, small transport heading 010 degrees). Factors: balky radio equipment in plane occupied an excessive amount of my attention (unable to identify VOR). Thus I was not looking outside the aircraft when I should have been. Pilot in small transport had right-of-way by 'rules of the road,' but chose to stand on them when he had me in sight, and suspected I didn't see him.

Title: SMA HIT WAKE TURB OF SMT WHILE IN CRUISE. UNICOM CONVERSATION BTWN THE ACFT SHOWED THAT THE SMT SAW THE SMA BUT CHOSE TO INSIST ON HIS RIGHT OF WAY. SMA DID NOT SEE SMT UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE TO REACT.
Narrative: I DEPARTED SUMMIT ARPT (N92) ENRTE TO RED LION (N73) AT APPROX XY11 LCL TIME. INITIAL CLB TO 2000 FT AND TURNED TO A HDG OF 090 DEGS. I WAS HAVING TROUBLE IDENTING THE OOD VOR WHEN I LOOKED UP AND SAW THE SMT PASS IMMEDIATELY IN FRONT OF ME. I HIT HIS WAKE TURB IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS. I CONTACTED THE PLT VIA RADIO. HE SAID THEY HAD ME IN SIGHT AND WERE WAITING FOR ME TO 'BREAK OFF' (MY HDG 090 DEGS, SMT HDG 010 DEGS). FACTORS: BALKY RADIO EQUIP IN PLANE OCCUPIED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF MY ATTN (UNABLE TO IDENT VOR). THUS I WAS NOT LOOKING OUTSIDE THE ACFT WHEN I SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
