Narrative:

On approach into ewr we were flying the ILS runway 4R. On final, approaching the GS, I called for the gear to be lowered. When the captain lowered the handle, almost immediately a loud bang was heard and the aircraft shuddered. We immediately executed a go around and shortly after discovered we lost all fluid in the center hydraulic system. In addition, the nose and right main gear showed down and locked, but the left gear-down indicator was off. For the next 1 1/2 hours we trouble shot the system to no avail. On an aircraft flyby, the gear was reported down, and a tower flyby at jfk also confirmed the gear was down, but we never got a locked indication. The flight attendants briefed the passenger on an emergency landing and evacuate/evacuation. However, the landing was uneventful, and we were towed to the gate (we diverted to jfk). 1 other failure occurred after we lost the C system hydraulics. Before the failure, the flaps were out to 15 degrees. For the rest of the flight, the flaps remained at 15 degrees. All attempts with the alternate flaps were unsuccessful. Supplemental information from acn 207981: numerous EICAS and status messages appeared.

Title: LOSS OF 'C' SYS HYDS NECESSITATES AN AIRBORNE GEAR INSPECTION AND DIVERSION TO ALT ARPT.

Narrative: ON APCH INTO EWR WE WERE FLYING THE ILS RWY 4R. ON FINAL, APCHING THE GS, I CALLED FOR THE GEAR TO BE LOWERED. WHEN THE CAPT LOWERED THE HANDLE, ALMOST IMMEDIATELY A LOUD BANG WAS HEARD AND THE ACFT SHUDDERED. WE IMMEDIATELY EXECUTED A GAR AND SHORTLY AFTER DISCOVERED WE LOST ALL FLUID IN THE CTR HYD SYS. IN ADDITION, THE NOSE AND R MAIN GEAR SHOWED DOWN AND LOCKED, BUT THE L GEAR-DOWN INDICATOR WAS OFF. FOR THE NEXT 1 1/2 HRS WE TROUBLE SHOT THE SYS TO NO AVAIL. ON AN ACFT FLYBY, THE GEAR WAS RPTED DOWN, AND A TWR FLYBY AT JFK ALSO CONFIRMED THE GEAR WAS DOWN, BUT WE NEVER GOT A LOCKED INDICATION. THE FLT ATTENDANTS BRIEFED THE PAX ON AN EMER LNDG AND EVAC. HOWEVER, THE LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL, AND WE WERE TOWED TO THE GATE (WE DIVERTED TO JFK). 1 OTHER FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER WE LOST THE C SYS HYDS. BEFORE THE FAILURE, THE FLAPS WERE OUT TO 15 DEGS. FOR THE REST OF THE FLT, THE FLAPS REMAINED AT 15 DEGS. ALL ATTEMPTS WITH THE ALTERNATE FLAPS WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 207981: NUMEROUS EICAS AND STATUS MESSAGES APPEARED.
