Narrative:
We had departed dfw airport and were on a 100 degree heading. Our altitude was 4000 ft MSL and speed 240 KIAS. We were on the dfw 085 degree radial, intercepting the 090 degree radial. Our landing lights, navigation lights, and both beacons were on. All of a sudden, my first officer saw a high wing private aircraft. He was less that 1/2 mi in front of us, flying the same direction, just slightly below us. (We were 18 NM from the dfw VOR). We were overtaking it, quickly. I turned left right away and climbed 200 ft to miss the small aircraft! (Yes, we were close enough to see that it was an small aircraft X or Y)! ATC was notified and the controller told us that ATC was not in radio contact with that aircraft. We were inside the dfw TCA and so was that small aircraft. Controller told us he never observed that traffic 'till after we told him about it. Another near-hit inside the dfw TCA!
