Narrative:
My first day on job after chkout in aircraft and first day of 2 man crew operations other than 2 military instructors flying together. Received only 3 flts and 0 simulator in training so not extremely familiar with all aspects of aircraft and behind in first officer duties. Captain flying and helping me. Both got distraction with radios and checklist and did not level at cleared altitude of 6000 ft. Changed aircraft for this leg and new aircraft didn't have altitude alert system. Typical build-up of factors: new first officer, distraction, differently equipped aircraft. Supplemental information from acn 209102. I was distraction from the altimeter while trying to monitor the first officer and watch for traffic outside the cockpit. Departure called traffic at our 10 O'clock position, then issued a right turn to 010 degree heading. Departure then informed us we were not cleared above 6000 ft. We were climbing through 7000-7500 ft. Departure then cleared us to our final cruising altitude of 16000 ft. In the future in a busy TCA or air traffic area, I will not become preoccupied with a new first officer and concentrate on flying the airplane.

Narrative: MY FIRST DAY ON JOB AFTER CHKOUT IN ACFT AND FIRST DAY OF 2 MAN CREW OPS OTHER THAN 2 MIL INSTRUCTORS FLYING TOGETHER. RECEIVED ONLY 3 FLTS AND 0 SIMULATOR IN TRAINING SO NOT EXTREMELY FAMILIAR WITH ALL ASPECTS OF ACFT AND BEHIND IN FO DUTIES. CAPT FLYING AND HELPING ME. BOTH GOT DISTR WITH RADIOS AND CHKLIST AND DID NOT LEVEL AT CLRED ALT OF 6000 FT. CHANGED ACFT FOR THIS LEG AND NEW ACFT DIDN'T HAVE ALT ALERT SYS. TYPICAL BUILD-UP OF FACTORS: NEW FO, DISTR, DIFFERENTLY EQUIPPED ACFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 209102. I WAS DISTR FROM THE ALTIMETER WHILE TRYING TO MONITOR THE FO AND WATCH FOR TFC OUTSIDE THE COCKPIT. DEP CALLED TFC AT OUR 10 O'CLOCK POS, THEN ISSUED A R TURN TO 010 DEG HDG. DEP THEN INFORMED US WE WERE NOT CLRED ABOVE 6000 FT. WE WERE CLBING THROUGH 7000-7500 FT. DEP THEN CLRED US TO OUR FINAL CRUISING ALT OF 16000 FT. IN THE FUTURE IN A BUSY TCA OR ATA, I WILL NOT BECOME PREOCCUPIED WITH A NEW FO AND CONCENTRATE ON FLYING THE AIRPLANE.
