Narrative:
On may/xx/92 oil contamination was discovered in 2 aircraft. The problem arose by changing out a barrel that was not labeled 'contaminated oil drum.' the drum was set up to replace the empty one by me, but before the barrel could be put in place, I was taken off the job. Another mechanic and fuel servicer put the barrel on. It then was discovered that afternoon after this, that the 2 aircraft in question were contaminated. An oil sample then was immediately taken and found to have water and fuel in it. Xyz airlines then initiated an air interruption on both aircraft and brought them back immediately. The mistake was made by not having contaminated barrels marked and by mechanic never doing the job before not knowing any different. Action to be taken -- all barrels open or not usable will have a red X on the barrel in paint.

Title: 2 ACR ACFT SVCED WITH CONTAMINATED OIL AND DISPATCHED BEFORE ERROR NOTED. FLTS CALLED FOR RETURN LAND.
Narrative: ON MAY/XX/92 OIL CONTAMINATION WAS DISCOVERED IN 2 ACFT. ANOTHER MECH AND FUEL SERVICER PUT THE BARREL ON. IT THEN WAS DISCOVERED THAT AFTERNOON AFTER THIS, THAT THE 2 ACFT IN QUESTION WERE CONTAMINATED. AN OIL SAMPLE THEN WAS IMMEDIATELY TAKEN AND FOUND TO HAVE WATER AND FUEL IN IT. XYZ AIRLINES THEN INITIATED AN AIR INTERRUPTION ON BOTH ACFT AND BROUGHT THEM BACK IMMEDIATELY. THE MISTAKE WAS MADE BY NOT HAVING CONTAMINATED BARRELS MARKED AND BY MECH NEVER DOING THE JOB BEFORE NOT KNOWING ANY DIFFERENT. ACTION TO BE TAKEN -- ALL BARRELS OPEN OR NOT USABLE WILL HAVE A RED X ON THE BARREL IN PAINT.
