Narrative:
I was assigned to fly a flight 20 mins prior to departure. As a coincidence, the first officer contacted dispatch in my presence to question why the airplane was planned an extra 12000 pounds of fuel on arrival. Dispatch informed him that the #1 ADF was placarded inoperative and cancun, mexico was planned as an alternate. After referring to the airplane MEL, we noticed that the aircraft was illegally dispatched, but included the word (continued). We incorrectly assumed that dispatch had additional information to dispatch the aircraft. After arrival in mga (managua) I called the dispatcher and questioned him on the #1 MEL item, and he admitted that he had referred to domestic operation dispatch procedures and not the international supplement. The situation has been corrected and this action occurred unintentionally.

Title: THE CREW OF AN INTL LGT WAS IMPROPERLY DISPATCHED BECAUSE THE DISPATCHER WAS USING THE DOMESTIC MEL AND THE AIR CREW WAS USING AN MEL THAT HAD A MISLEADING STATEMENT.
Narrative: I WAS ASSIGNED TO FLY A FLT 20 MINS PRIOR TO DEP. AS A COINCIDENCE, THE FO CONTACTED DISPATCH IN MY PRESENCE TO QUESTION WHY THE AIRPLANE WAS PLANNED AN EXTRA 12000 POUNDS OF FUEL ON ARR. DISPATCH INFORMED HIM THAT THE #1 ADF WAS PLACARDED INOP AND CANCUN, MEXICO WAS PLANNED AS AN ALTERNATE. AFTER REFERRING TO THE AIRPLANE MEL, WE NOTICED THAT THE ACFT WAS ILLEGALLY DISPATCHED, BUT INCLUDED THE WORD (CONTINUED). WE INCORRECTLY ASSUMED THAT DISPATCH HAD ADDITIONAL INFO TO DISPATCH THE ACFT. AFTER ARR IN MGA (MANAGUA) I CALLED THE DISPATCHER AND QUESTIONED HIM ON THE #1 MEL ITEM, AND HE ADMITTED THAT HE HAD REFERRED TO DOMESTIC OP DISPATCH PROCS AND NOT THE INTL SUPPLEMENT. THE SITUATION HAS BEEN CORRECTED AND THIS ACTION OCCURRED UNINTENTIONALLY.
