Narrative:
I was conducting initial operating experience for the first officer. We were discussing the way I was flying the approach and she forgot to change to the tower for landing clearance. We remained on the approach control frequency until on the runway. Nothing adverse happened, but I recognize how the distraction of training created a hazardous situation. Training must stop at or before the marker. I think she was expecting the approach controller to tell her to change to tower. Supplemental information from acn 210856: when in operations, called tower on the phone. They said that they had cleared us to land in the blind and how unsafe the whole situation was. Tower said they would not file a report. The situation probably would not have occurred had approach told us to contact tower. Also, the training situation caused distraction in the cockpit that normally would not be there. The first officer was new to the flying seat and airplane, after 4 yrs as a flight engineer. That was a factor in the tower not being contacted.

Title: CLRNC LNDG NOT RECEIVED.
Narrative: I WAS CONDUCTING INITIAL OPERATING EXPERIENCE FOR THE FO. WE WERE DISCUSSING THE WAY I WAS FLYING THE APCH AND SHE FORGOT TO CHANGE TO THE TWR FOR LNDG CLRNC. WE REMAINED ON THE APCH CTL FREQ UNTIL ON THE RWY. NOTHING ADVERSE HAPPENED, BUT I RECOGNIZE HOW THE DISTR OF TRAINING CREATED A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. TRAINING MUST STOP AT OR BEFORE THE MARKER. I THINK SHE WAS EXPECTING THE APCH CTLR TO TELL HER TO CHANGE TO TWR. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 210856: WHEN IN OPS, CALLED TWR ON THE PHONE. THEY SAID THAT THEY HAD CLRED US TO LAND IN THE BLIND AND HOW UNSAFE THE WHOLE SITUATION WAS. TWR SAID THEY WOULD NOT FILE A RPT. THE SITUATION PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED HAD APCH TOLD US TO CONTACT TWR. ALSO, THE TRAINING SITUATION CAUSED DISTR IN THE COCKPIT THAT NORMALLY WOULD NOT BE THERE. THE FO WAS NEW TO THE FLYING SEAT AND AIRPLANE, AFTER 4 YRS AS A FLT ENGINEER. THAT WAS A FACTOR IN THE TWR NOT BEING CONTACTED.
