Narrative:

I was being checked out in a small aircraft light twin. Departed pao for sck on IFR flight plan, VMC, initial altitude assignment: 3000 ft. As we approached 3000, instructor was explaining some procedure. I noticed we were at 3300 at same time ATC reminded us of assigned altitude and I corrected. I should have given priority to flying the aircraft and deferred listening to instructor.

Title: INSTRUCTOR AND PLT ON CHKOUT FLT IN LIGHT TWIN BUST THEIR ALT DURING IFR CLBOUT FROM PAO DUE TO INSTRUCTOR DISTRACTING PLT BY TALKING.

Narrative: I WAS BEING CHKED OUT IN A SMA LIGHT TWIN. DEPARTED PAO FOR SCK ON IFR FLT PLAN, VMC, INITIAL ALT ASSIGNMENT: 3000 FT. AS WE APCHED 3000, INSTRUCTOR WAS EXPLAINING SOME PROC. I NOTICED WE WERE AT 3300 AT SAME TIME ATC REMINDED US OF ASSIGNED ALT AND I CORRECTED. I SHOULD HAVE GIVEN PRIORITY TO FLYING THE ACFT AND DEFERRED LISTENING TO INSTRUCTOR.
