Narrative:

Air carrier X level at FL160 cle..crl..jxn..A20 descending. I saw a VFR code at FL160 heading s-swbound. I took handoff on air carrier X. Before air carrier X called, I determined the 2 targets would merge. I called across the aisle to the tol sector controller and said he could either climb or descend the air carrier X. He had already changed his frequency. The air carrier checked on my frequency and I called the traffic. He reported him in sight. I wasn't comfortable with the proximity of the aircraft Y, so I climbed the air carrier X to FL170. The air carrier X said the altitude on the VFR Y was FL160 and estimated the miss at a couple hundred ft and no mileage. The air carrier X took evasive action.
