Narrative:
After normal pushback and engine start, I released brakes prior to salute. Aircraft rolled onto towbar causing minor damage to nose of aircraft by tow tractor. There were 2 contributing factors to the incident. An medium large transport in the adjacent gate had pushed simultaneously with us and parked directly in front of us for his engine start, dominating our view. He received a salute and I subconsciously accepted it as my own. The redundancy of the crew had been diminished by a newly implemented starting procedure, radically changing the start SOP's of the other crew members.
