Narrative:

The departure ends of runways 35 and 26 are obscured from each other by a tree line and a group of hangars. At approximately XA50 EDT I landed on 26 and taxied to the ramp to discharge a passenger. I immediately taxied to 26, did a runup, announced departure on 122.7 (CTAF) and started my takeoff roll. At about rotation, I heard someone announce holding on 35. When I returned to the airport I was informed that a plane had announced departure on 35 prior to my announcement and aborted his takeoff when he heard my announcement. I never heard his announcement. I attribute this to signal intervention by the intervening hangars. In the future, I shall increase receiver gain above normal settings when departing an uncontrolled airport when all runways cannot be seen. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states he is on the advisory board for the airport and brought the subject up before the board. Since it is now a public matter of liability, the airport management has taken action to have the trees cut back on the airport by the first part of next yr. Reporter says FBO heard both announcements on CTAF. He has a tall antenna opposed to aircraft just a few ft off the ground.

Title: ACFT ANNOUNCES DEP ON CTAF. SECOND ACFT ABORTS TKOF HE HAD ANNOUNCED JUST PRIOR TO RPTR. UNABLE TO SEE RWY ENDS.

Narrative: THE DEP ENDS OF RWYS 35 AND 26 ARE OBSCURED FROM EACH OTHER BY A TREE LINE AND A GROUP OF HANGARS. AT APPROX XA50 EDT I LANDED ON 26 AND TAXIED TO THE RAMP TO DISCHARGE A PAX. I IMMEDIATELY TAXIED TO 26, DID A RUNUP, ANNOUNCED DEP ON 122.7 (CTAF) AND STARTED MY TKOF ROLL. AT ABOUT ROTATION, I HEARD SOMEONE ANNOUNCE HOLDING ON 35. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE ARPT I WAS INFORMED THAT A PLANE HAD ANNOUNCED DEP ON 35 PRIOR TO MY ANNOUNCEMENT AND ABORTED HIS TKOF WHEN HE HEARD MY ANNOUNCEMENT. I NEVER HEARD HIS ANNOUNCEMENT. I ATTRIBUTE THIS TO SIGNAL INTERVENTION BY THE INTERVENING HANGARS. IN THE FUTURE, I SHALL INCREASE RECEIVER GAIN ABOVE NORMAL SETTINGS WHEN DEPARTING AN UNCTLED ARPT WHEN ALL RWYS CANNOT BE SEEN. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES HE IS ON THE ADVISORY BOARD FOR THE ARPT AND BROUGHT THE SUBJECT UP BEFORE THE BOARD. SINCE IT IS NOW A PUBLIC MATTER OF LIABILITY, THE ARPT MGMNT HAS TAKEN ACTION TO HAVE THE TREES CUT BACK ON THE ARPT BY THE FIRST PART OF NEXT YR. RPTR SAYS FBO HEARD BOTH ANNOUNCEMENTS ON CTAF. HE HAS A TALL ANTENNA OPPOSED TO ACFT JUST A FEW FT OFF THE GND.
