Narrative:

While on a VFR trip to bismarck, nd, on the morning of jun/xx/92, I lost all my electrical power approximately 30 mi southwest of bismarck. I was from centennial airport in englewood, co (denver). The airplane had an annual approximately 3 months before trip. I got out my VFR maps and navigated by compass course and lines to bismarck. I entered the pattern and was flying up to 21L runway. The tower gave me a green light. I therefore overflew the runway, did a 360 degree base final, landed on the runway. It turned out that the runway was closed (indicated on ATIS) as there were contractors on the other end of the runway. They gave me red/green on my approach, however, by this time I was watching landing area and not tower. No closed markings were on the runway. My runout on the ground was very short and I was many yards from anyone on the runway. I should have noticed the last signals from the tower, continued circling. Also, they should have put a temporary X on the runway threshold. Broken lead on the generator was the cause of the electrical failure. I had the generator overhauled lead repaired before departure.
