Narrative:

Sudden display of conflicting traffic (TCASII TA) at 2 mi, 12 O'clock at our altitude followed immediately by TCASII RA (climb, climb). PF (reporter) disconnected autoplt and initiated climb to 35900 ft when conflict ceased. No visual contact made and ATC indicated no traffic in our area. During discussion with ATC approximately 6 other TA's were issued (phantoms) by TCASII, all at our altitude and various position around our aircraft. 1 additional RA was issued (descend, descend) calling for 2000 FPM descent. ATC indicated this was a continual problem near tonopah, nv.
