Narrative:

Prior to departing iah for efd, the captain discussed the NOTAMS for iah and efd which included a NOTAM for efd stating non-standard taxi and runway marking. The NOTAM did not specify what was non-standard. The flight to efd was uneventful. Leaving the gate at efd, we were assigned runway 35L via echo for takeoff. The hold line for the runway was on hotel. We advised the tower we were ready for takeoff and the captain called for the before takeoff checklist. While I was performing the checklist, the captain positioned the aircraft on the runway. A runway sign stating 17-35 appeared to the east of hotel. After completing the checklist, the captain asked if I was ready. I mentally noted that the heading bug was at the top of the HSI and looked at the digital reading, then advanced the power for takeoff. I noticed almost immediately from the runway number that we were on runway 4 and aborted the takeoff. I had misread the digital reading of the heading bug, it read 035 not 350. The position of the 17-35 runway sign and the fact that the runway 4 number is after the intersection of runway 35 and echo contributed to this mistake. In addition, while the captain was positioning the aircraft for takeoff, I was performing the checklist and was not aware of the position of the aircraft relative to other runways during this process.

Title: COMMUTER FLC ABORTS A WRONG RWY TKOF AT EFD.

Narrative: PRIOR TO DEPARTING IAH FOR EFD, THE CAPT DISCUSSED THE NOTAMS FOR IAH AND EFD WHICH INCLUDED A NOTAM FOR EFD STATING NON-STANDARD TAXI AND RWY MARKING. THE NOTAM DID NOT SPECIFY WHAT WAS NON-STANDARD. THE FLT TO EFD WAS UNEVENTFUL. LEAVING THE GATE AT EFD, WE WERE ASSIGNED RWY 35L VIA ECHO FOR TKOF. THE HOLD LINE FOR THE RWY WAS ON HOTEL. WE ADVISED THE TWR WE WERE READY FOR TKOF AND THE CAPT CALLED FOR THE BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST. WHILE I WAS PERFORMING THE CHKLIST, THE CAPT POSITIONED THE ACFT ON THE RWY. A RWY SIGN STATING 17-35 APPEARED TO THE E OF HOTEL. AFTER COMPLETING THE CHKLIST, THE CAPT ASKED IF I WAS READY. I MENTALLY NOTED THAT THE HDG BUG WAS AT THE TOP OF THE HSI AND LOOKED AT THE DIGITAL READING, THEN ADVANCED THE PWR FOR TKOF. I NOTICED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY FROM THE RWY NUMBER THAT WE WERE ON RWY 4 AND ABORTED THE TKOF. I HAD MISREAD THE DIGITAL READING OF THE HDG BUG, IT READ 035 NOT 350. THE POS OF THE 17-35 RWY SIGN AND THE FACT THAT THE RWY 4 NUMBER IS AFTER THE INTXN OF RWY 35 AND ECHO CONTRIBUTED TO THIS MISTAKE. IN ADDITION, WHILE THE CAPT WAS POSITIONING THE ACFT FOR TKOF, I WAS PERFORMING THE CHKLIST AND WAS NOT AWARE OF THE POS OF THE ACFT RELATIVE TO OTHER RWYS DURING THIS PROCESS.
