Narrative:
Did a straight-in approach and landing runway 13 cameron park. At 20 mi out, started listening watch on cameron park unicom 123.0. Heard many transmissions at other airports lincoln and columbia. Heard no traffic at cameron park. Called cameron park 3 times requesting traffic and runway in use. No answer. Decided to do straight-in based on no observed traffic visually nor orally (no answer to traffic request nor any calls from aircraft in cameron park traffic pattern). Continued approach. Just prior to touchdown, an aircraft suddenly appeared straight ahead traveling in opposite direction. I was in my landing flare and completed landing. Other aircraft flew directly over me at about 300 ft above. I have no idea where he came from. He was climbing and appeared to be a small small aircraft Y. I doubt that he had a radio. During the approach, I observed no aircraft on the runway nor in the traffic pattern. Obviously, I should have done a full traffic pattern -- however, I believe his lack of having a radio definitely contributed to the incident!
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NMAC AT NON TWR ARPT UNICOM.
Narrative: DID A STRAIGHT-IN APCH AND LNDG RWY 13 CAMERON PARK. AT 20 MI OUT, STARTED LISTENING WATCH ON CAMERON PARK UNICOM 123.0. HEARD MANY TRANSMISSIONS AT OTHER ARPTS LINCOLN AND COLUMBIA. HEARD NO TFC AT CAMERON PARK. CALLED CAMERON PARK 3 TIMES REQUESTING TFC AND RWY IN USE. NO ANSWER. DECIDED TO DO STRAIGHT-IN BASED ON NO OBSERVED TFC VISUALLY NOR ORALLY (NO ANSWER TO TFC REQUEST NOR ANY CALLS FROM ACFT IN CAMERON PARK TFC PATTERN). CONTINUED APCH. JUST PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN, AN ACFT SUDDENLY APPEARED STRAIGHT AHEAD TRAVELING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I WAS IN MY LNDG FLARE AND COMPLETED LNDG. OTHER ACFT FLEW DIRECTLY OVER ME AT ABOUT 300 FT ABOVE. I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE HE CAME FROM. HE WAS CLBING AND APPEARED TO BE A SMALL SMA Y. I DOUBT THAT HE HAD A RADIO. DURING THE APCH, I OBSERVED NO ACFT ON THE RWY NOR IN THE TFC PATTERN. OBVIOUSLY, I SHOULD HAVE DONE A FULL TFC PATTERN -- HOWEVER, I BELIEVE HIS LACK OF HAVING A RADIO DEFINITELY CONTRIBUTED TO THE INCIDENT!
