Narrative:
On departure out of sbp to sfo (after sbp ground control cleared us crepe 3 af) our company's canned flight plan is (sbp crepe 3 crepe bsr osi sfo). At approximately 4500 ft and 2 mi from crepe intersection, I asked for direct bsr. Lax center said that they were unable at this time. My first officer misunderstood her instructions and started a left turn to intercept V27 to bsr. We started a turn back to the right as soon as I realized what she had done so that we would be back on course. At the same time, lax center told us to turn right to a heading of 330 degrees, followed shortly after with direct bsr. Lax center claims that we set off the (oedp). I feel that a factor in this mishap, was the fact that myself and my first officer had a reduced rest of approximately 6 hours the night before in sbp. We also had an early call to report to the airport earlier than scheduled to fly flight xx to sfo, instead of our scheduled flight to sjc. I believe 8 yrs of real sleep would go a long way in preventing what happened to us.

Title: COMMUTER ACFT INCORRECTLY MAKES HDG CHANGE SETTING OFF OEDP.
Narrative: ON DEP OUT OF SBP TO SFO (AFTER SBP GND CTL CLRED US CREPE 3 AF) OUR COMPANY'S CANNED FLT PLAN IS (SBP CREPE 3 CREPE BSR OSI SFO). AT APPROX 4500 FT AND 2 MI FROM CREPE INTXN, I ASKED FOR DIRECT BSR. LAX CTR SAID THAT THEY WERE UNABLE AT THIS TIME. MY FO MISUNDERSTOOD HER INSTRUCTIONS AND STARTED A L TURN TO INTERCEPT V27 TO BSR. WE STARTED A TURN BACK TO THE R AS SOON AS I REALIZED WHAT SHE HAD DONE SO THAT WE WOULD BE BACK ON COURSE. AT THE SAME TIME, LAX CTR TOLD US TO TURN R TO A HDG OF 330 DEGS, FOLLOWED SHORTLY AFTER WITH DIRECT BSR. LAX CTR CLAIMS THAT WE SET OFF THE (OEDP). I FEEL THAT A FACTOR IN THIS MISHAP, WAS THE FACT THAT MYSELF AND MY FO HAD A REDUCED REST OF APPROX 6 HRS THE NIGHT BEFORE IN SBP. WE ALSO HAD AN EARLY CALL TO RPT TO THE ARPT EARLIER THAN SCHEDULED TO FLY FLT XX TO SFO, INSTEAD OF OUR SCHEDULED FLT TO SJC. I BELIEVE 8 YRS OF REAL SLEEP WOULD GO A LONG WAY IN PREVENTING WHAT HAPPENED TO US.
