Narrative:
I was with a fellow worker who holds a CFI in rotorcraft helicopter. While on a training mission, we went to the simi valley area to practice autorotations. We commenced to practice straight-in autorotations and completed 4, all power recovery to a 3 ft hover with no problems. When then practiced 180 degree autorotations and completed 2 all power recovery to a 3 ft hover with no problems. However, on the third practice automatic (180 degrees) the engine failed. We landed with no injuries, no property damage and some damage to the aircraft. All required preflight inspections had been completed with no indication of a problem.
