Narrative:
At FL330 the gear came down on our medium large transport. The autoplt increased power -- we heard a thump -- didn't realize it was the gear. We saw the throttles jump forward so the captain turned off the autoplt and returned the throttles to normal cruise power so the airspeed dropped and we descended. We soon noticed the gear was down and put it back up. The airspeed picked up and we climbed back to FL330. We had lost 400 ft during the whole maneuver. There was no incident that we are aware of. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: the first officer in this incident states that maintenance was not able to tell the crew exactly why the landing gear fell down. Apparently there was no damage to the aircraft, and there was no traffic conflict. There has been no action by the FAA.

Title: THE 2 MAIN LNDG GEAR FELL DOWN IN FLT ON AN MLG. THE ACFT LOST 400 FT IN SORTING OUT THE PROBLEM.
Narrative: AT FL330 THE GEAR CAME DOWN ON OUR MLG. THE AUTOPLT INCREASED PWR -- WE HEARD A THUMP -- DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS THE GEAR. WE SAW THE THROTTLES JUMP FORWARD SO THE CAPT TURNED OFF THE AUTOPLT AND RETURNED THE THROTTLES TO NORMAL CRUISE PWR SO THE AIRSPD DROPPED AND WE DSNDED. WE SOON NOTICED THE GEAR WAS DOWN AND PUT IT BACK UP. THE AIRSPD PICKED UP AND WE CLBED BACK TO FL330. WE HAD LOST 400 FT DURING THE WHOLE MANEUVER. THERE WAS NO INCIDENT THAT WE ARE AWARE OF. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: THE FO IN THIS INCIDENT STATES THAT MAINT WAS NOT ABLE TO TELL THE CREW EXACTLY WHY THE LNDG GEAR FELL DOWN. APPARENTLY THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE ACFT, AND THERE WAS NO TFC CONFLICT. THERE HAS BEEN NO ACTION BY THE FAA.
