Narrative:
At cruise over gld out of dfw en route to yyc. Noticed a target approaching us from about the 9 O'clock position in a climb. We were level at FL310. The target continued to climb and when it got to 1000 ft below us and continued its ascent our TCASII ordered 'climb.' we climbed about 200 ft. The target began a right turn and leveled. Our TCASII ordered 'monitor vertical speed' and we leveled. The conflict resolved, we returned to FL310. Upon calling center, found we had lost radio contact. Another aircraft relayed a new frequency to us. And we continued. We were at our assigned altitude and on course. Center never mentioned the incident.
