Narrative:

I recently went on a flight to freeport in the bahamas. As a CFI it was the first flight across the ADIZ for myself and also for my student. Everything was ok until we stopped at customs at pbi. The inspector quickly noticed that the tail numbers were not of proper size. He stated that the numbers had to be 12 inches in height. He quickly photocopied my license and made it clear that he would send it to the FAA. Throughout all my flight training as a CFI I was never made aware of this far. In order to prevent others from having the same problem, I would recommend that this be included in all pilot training curriculum and in more FAA publications.
