Narrative:
Cruise at 33000. Engine #3 failed. Slight altitude loss. Asked ATC for course reversal and descent to lower altitude (performance on remaining 2 engines was not enough for safety of flight). Emergency declared as precautionary measure. (ATC granted course reversal and new altitude without emergency declaration). ATC was extremely helpful in providing altitude and vectoring requirements. Return to phx was uneventful.
