Narrative:
Prior to taxi, called intentions on 121.8 -- ground, (just in case a transient was on 121.8 instead of 118.6) then called on 118.6. Called (118.6) entering main taxiway. Called (118.6) stopping at #1 position for final checks. Called taking the active, runway 24, on 118.6 and 'in position to hold.' called 'rolling' on 118.6 at approximately PM50. After accelerating through 70-80 KTS, heard weak call on 118.6: 'air carrier ???, going around...aircraft on runway.' no site identify (palomar traffic?) was given. After takeoff, switched to 127.3 for departure as customary. No traffic calls heard from FAA? Saw aircraft, left, 9 O'clock low (1000-1500 ft ?) in a right turn. Wondered if it was an (the?) air carrier. Did not hear any calls on 118.6 prior to the 'going around call.' none of our calls were answered. The commuter folks may be used to lax, etc, and not accustomed to making/acknowledging calls in an uncontrolled environment?
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR SMT HAD TO GAR AT AN UNCTLED ARPT BECAUSE THERE WAS A CPR SMT JET ON THE RWY.
Narrative: PRIOR TO TAXI, CALLED INTENTIONS ON 121.8 -- GND, (JUST IN CASE A TRANSIENT WAS ON 121.8 INSTEAD OF 118.6) THEN CALLED ON 118.6. CALLED (118.6) ENTERING MAIN TAXIWAY. CALLED (118.6) STOPPING AT #1 POS FOR FINAL CHKS. CALLED TAKING THE ACTIVE, RWY 24, ON 118.6 AND 'IN POS TO HOLD.' CALLED 'ROLLING' ON 118.6 AT APPROX PM50. AFTER ACCELERATING THROUGH 70-80 KTS, HEARD WEAK CALL ON 118.6: 'ACR ???, GOING AROUND...ACFT ON RWY.' NO SITE IDENT (PALOMAR TFC?) WAS GIVEN. AFTER TKOF, SWITCHED TO 127.3 FOR DEP AS CUSTOMARY. NO TFC CALLS HEARD FROM FAA? SAW ACFT, L, 9 O'CLOCK LOW (1000-1500 FT ?) IN A R TURN. WONDERED IF IT WAS AN (THE?) ACR. DID NOT HEAR ANY CALLS ON 118.6 PRIOR TO THE 'GOING AROUND CALL.' NONE OF OUR CALLS WERE ANSWERED. THE COMMUTER FOLKS MAY BE USED TO LAX, ETC, AND NOT ACCUSTOMED TO MAKING/ACKNOWLEDGING CALLS IN AN UNCTLED ENVIRONMENT?
