Narrative:
Leaving our cargo ramp at msp, we were instructed to hold short of runway 22. ATC then told us to cross the runway and follow a widebody transport to runway 29L. We gave way to the widebody transport and continued to taxi. ATC instructed us to give way to an approaching medium large transport. Soon after we resumed taxiing, our turn to the outer taxiway came up. The first officer was reviewing the departure procedure since msp has a special procedure when the WX is below 1000 and 7. The WX was 300 ft overcast, 4 mi in light rain. It was still dark. At this point, the captain realized something didn't look right. We had passed the outer taxiway. As the captain stopped and turned the airplane, ATC urged us to stop immediately. ATC then cleared us to turn right, onto the outer, and taxi to 29L. The airport diagram shows the area where this incident happened, to be at the intxns of C5, C and a. We had a hard time identing taxiway a (outer) due to poor WX (light rain and dark), questionable taxiway identify and moderate to heavy traffic.

Narrative: LEAVING OUR CARGO RAMP AT MSP, WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 22. ATC THEN TOLD US TO CROSS THE RWY AND FOLLOW A WDB TO RWY 29L. WE GAVE WAY TO THE WDB AND CONTINUED TO TAXI. ATC INSTRUCTED US TO GIVE WAY TO AN APCHING MLG. SOON AFTER WE RESUMED TAXIING, OUR TURN TO THE OUTER TAXIWAY CAME UP. THE FO WAS REVIEWING THE DEP PROC SINCE MSP HAS A SPECIAL PROC WHEN THE WX IS BELOW 1000 AND 7. THE WX WAS 300 FT OVCST, 4 MI IN LIGHT RAIN. IT WAS STILL DARK. AT THIS POINT, THE CAPT REALIZED SOMETHING DIDN'T LOOK RIGHT. WE HAD PASSED THE OUTER TAXIWAY. AS THE CAPT STOPPED AND TURNED THE AIRPLANE, ATC URGED US TO STOP IMMEDIATELY. ATC THEN CLRED US TO TURN R, ONTO THE OUTER, AND TAXI TO 29L. THE ARPT DIAGRAM SHOWS THE AREA WHERE THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED, TO BE AT THE INTXNS OF C5, C AND A. WE HAD A HARD TIME IDENTING TAXIWAY A (OUTER) DUE TO POOR WX (LIGHT RAIN AND DARK), QUESTIONABLE TAXIWAY IDENT AND MODERATE TO HVY TFC.
