Narrative:
Cruising at FL240 en route to tys. Position just east of atl. Heard pop in forward bulkhead followed by cabin depressurization. Center was unable to give lower altitude due to traffic underneath going into atl. By the time cabin altitude reached 20000, I was given a descend clearance. Just prior to that, the aircraft was about 200 ft low, and ATC inquired about our altitude. We could easily make a descent from this altitude without discomfort for the passenger, but maybe going on oxygen right away would have made the need for lower altitude less urgent and thus a 200 ft altitude deviation would have been avoided.
