Narrative:
On a scheduled charter between msy and pie, dispatch issued us a release with a route of flight that took us farther over water than we are authorized. We did not realize this until after landing at the destination and talking with dispatch. They informed us they were in error. The cause was a 'new' dispatcher. Upon the return leg, we took the overland route.
