Narrative:

Both first officer and I read our pre-departure clearance and did not see the 'mountain departure' as our cleared departure route. I even asked first officer if we got a departure route and he said no. I looked at printed clearance 2 more times and did not see the 'mountain departure.' I should have turned to 70 degree heading at the 5 DME fix south of sea but continued on runway heading. Departure control called to have us turn to 50 degree heading and asked if we had the 'mountain departure?' there was no conflict. I believe if clearance had been read instead of printed I would have heard 'mountain departure.'
