Narrative:
Picked up IFR clearance from tcl to MSL on ground in tcl from bhm approach. On climb out, controller asked our departure point. He thought we had departed from gad. We don't normally have a flight from tcl to MSL, but were rerted. In retrospect, I'm sure when he cleared us he said 'as filed, victor 325.' victor 325 doesn't go from tcl to MSL. When I called for the clearance I said we were on the ground at tcl. This is an example of both of us only hearing what we expected to hear and not the rest. From now on I'll be more careful to listen to the entire clearance. I filed the flight plan earlier in the day with anb FSS. The original flight plan with the same flight number from gad to MSL was the one he gave us. Next time, I'll be more explicit about our location and have them drop the other flight plan.

Title: COMMUTER ISSUED WRONG CLRNC, ACCEPTED CLRNC.
Narrative: PICKED UP IFR CLRNC FROM TCL TO MSL ON GND IN TCL FROM BHM APCH. ON CLBOUT, CTLR ASKED OUR DEP POINT. HE THOUGHT WE HAD DEPARTED FROM GAD. WE DON'T NORMALLY HAVE A FLT FROM TCL TO MSL, BUT WERE RERTED. IN RETROSPECT, I'M SURE WHEN HE CLRED US HE SAID 'AS FILED, VICTOR 325.' VICTOR 325 DOESN'T GO FROM TCL TO MSL. WHEN I CALLED FOR THE CLRNC I SAID WE WERE ON THE GND AT TCL. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF BOTH OF US ONLY HEARING WHAT WE EXPECTED TO HEAR AND NOT THE REST. FROM NOW ON I'LL BE MORE CAREFUL TO LISTEN TO THE ENTIRE CLRNC. I FILED THE FLT PLAN EARLIER IN THE DAY WITH ANB FSS. THE ORIGINAL FLT PLAN WITH THE SAME FLT NUMBER FROM GAD TO MSL WAS THE ONE HE GAVE US. NEXT TIME, I'LL BE MORE EXPLICIT ABOUT OUR LOCATION AND HAVE THEM DROP THE OTHER FLT PLAN.
