Narrative:
On taxi to the gate, we noticed 'tailcone missing' light on the annunciator panel. As we discussed it, the ground controller informed us a large object was seen off to the side of the runway after we landed. Our tailcone had fallen off either during or after landing. The emergency escape chute which is supposed to deploy automatically when the tailcone departed the aircraft did not deploy. This was the first flight after the aircraft had maintenance completed on the rudder limiter located on the tailcone area.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: THE TAIL CONE OF AN ACR MLG FELL OFF ON LNDG. THE EMER SLIDE DID NOT DEPLOY AS IT SHOULD HAVE IF THE CONE HAD BEEN COMMANDED TO BE RELEASED. THIS CAN BE DONE FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE THE ACFT.
