Narrative:
The aircraft was fueled at lbx airport in the morning. The pilot did the fueling. The flight departed at XM30 on a pleasure flight to kennedy, tx. Approximately 1 hour after departure, the engine quit. We were near vct and turned left to line up with runway 12L. The engine ran for a few mins, then quit again and I landed in a field beside the middle marker. The left landing gear hit a bush and was damaged. No one was hurt and no other damage was noted. Cause: the left wing tank gas cap was missing and all the fuel on board was lost in-flight. Reason for cap to come off -- unknown.
