Narrative:
With instructor returning to home field after an hour of flight training. Flying an small aircraft. Had just done approximately 4 touchdowns and lndgs at a neighboring grass strip without incident or difficulty. This was my first experience in the small aircraft. All of my previous training in tail draggers has been in an small aircraft X. Made an apparently normal approach, slight crosswind from the left. Upon touching the ground (it seemed), the plane went into an uncontrolled slide ahead and to the left for approximately 100 ft, ending off the runway, on the soft grass and dirt. No bounce, no sudden deceleration, no swerving back and forth. No one was injured. Propeller was bent, left wheel and gear were collapsed and under the fuselage. The left wing did not touch the ground. A runway light was damaged. Supplemental information from acn 227702: normal approach made to runway. Aircraft touched down 2 ft before paved surface. Left landing gear collapsed on contact with 1/2 inch pavement lip at end of runway. CFI misjudged float onto runway. Strongly suspect cracked or weakened landing gear before incident.

Title: L LNDG GEAR DAMAGED AND COLLAPSES WHILE LNDG.
Narrative: WITH INSTRUCTOR RETURNING TO HOME FIELD AFTER AN HR OF FLT TRAINING. FLYING AN SMA. HAD JUST DONE APPROX 4 TOUCHDOWNS AND LNDGS AT A NEIGHBORING GRASS STRIP WITHOUT INCIDENT OR DIFFICULTY. THIS WAS MY FIRST EXPERIENCE IN THE SMA. ALL OF MY PREVIOUS TRAINING IN TAIL DRAGGERS HAS BEEN IN AN SMA X. MADE AN APPARENTLY NORMAL APCH, SLIGHT XWIND FROM THE L. UPON TOUCHING THE GND (IT SEEMED), THE PLANE WENT INTO AN UNCTLED SLIDE AHEAD AND TO THE L FOR APPROX 100 FT, ENDING OFF THE RWY, ON THE SOFT GRASS AND DIRT. NO BOUNCE, NO SUDDEN DECELERATION, NO SWERVING BACK AND FORTH. NO ONE WAS INJURED. PROP WAS BENT, L WHEEL AND GEAR WERE COLLAPSED AND UNDER THE FUSELAGE. THE L WING DID NOT TOUCH THE GND. A RWY LIGHT WAS DAMAGED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 227702: NORMAL APCH MADE TO RWY. ACFT TOUCHED DOWN 2 FT BEFORE PAVED SURFACE. L LNDG GEAR COLLAPSED ON CONTACT WITH 1/2 INCH PAVEMENT LIP AT END OF RWY. CFI MISJUDGED FLOAT ONTO RWY. STRONGLY SUSPECT CRACKED OR WEAKENED LNDG GEAR BEFORE INCIDENT.
