Narrative:
We were distracted as we taxied to runway 32 from the gate. Fog was rolling in at the airport. We needed a takeoff alternate to be legal. We should have turned right on 'a' for 'ag' hold short of runway 32. Instead, we continued on till we passed both runway 32 and 36. We then stopped because we know we weren't where we were supposed to be. Ground gave us new instructions to taxi to runway 32. We took off without further problem. We were trying to do too much at once: taxi, contact company, running checklists at night, in the fog, at an unfamiliar airport. A contributing factor were the unclr taxiway and runway markings. Mobile is near the coast and is prone to fog in the winter. Markings should be improved.
