Narrative:
After landing for the first time on a west runway (13R) at dfw, I was told by ground control to taxi to and hold 'at the center of the pad.' the 'pad' is a runup area immediately adjacent to runway 17R. The 'pad' is not depicted on commercial charts. I followed several other aircraft to what I thought was the 'pad,' not realizing that the other aircraft were actually entering runway 17R for takeoff. When I realized where I was (on runway 17R) behind a departing aircraft, I continued taxiing on taxiway 18 to exit the runway as soon as possible. No other aircraft was required to take any evasive action. There is a blast fence at the end of runway 17R, which caused me to mistake it for a runup area. Due to frequency congestion, I did not ask for progressive taxi instructions. Suggestions: 'the pad' should be depicted and described on commercial and nos charts for dfw. A more visible means of the runway 17R hold short lines/lights at the pad would greatly help.

Title: AN SMT CARGO PLT TAXIED ONTO THE END OF AN ACTIVE RWY THINKING THAT HE WAS ON A HOLDING 'PAD.'
Narrative: AFTER LNDG FOR THE FIRST TIME ON A W RWY (13R) AT DFW, I WAS TOLD BY GND CTL TO TAXI TO AND HOLD 'AT THE CTR OF THE PAD.' THE 'PAD' IS A RUNUP AREA IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT TO RWY 17R. THE 'PAD' IS NOT DEPICTED ON COMMERCIAL CHARTS. I FOLLOWED SEVERAL OTHER ACFT TO WHAT I THOUGHT WAS THE 'PAD,' NOT REALIZING THAT THE OTHER ACFT WERE ACTUALLY ENTERING RWY 17R FOR TKOF. WHEN I REALIZED WHERE I WAS (ON RWY 17R) BEHIND A DEPARTING ACFT, I CONTINUED TAXIING ON TXWY 18 TO EXIT THE RWY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. NO OTHER ACFT WAS REQUIRED TO TAKE ANY EVASIVE ACTION. THERE IS A BLAST FENCE AT THE END OF RWY 17R, WHICH CAUSED ME TO MISTAKE IT FOR A RUNUP AREA. DUE TO FREQ CONGESTION, I DID NOT ASK FOR PROGRESSIVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. SUGGESTIONS: 'THE PAD' SHOULD BE DEPICTED AND DESCRIBED ON COMMERCIAL AND NOS CHARTS FOR DFW. A MORE VISIBLE MEANS OF THE RWY 17R HOLD SHORT LINES/LIGHTS AT THE PAD WOULD GREATLY HELP.
