Narrative:

Taxi out at maf to runway 34L. Missed turn at taxiway P due to some confusion over signage and taxied to end of 34L via lima. After takeoff, discovered that we had taxied on a stopway that wasn't stressed for our gross weight. Because of poor WX, most of attention was outside of cockpit, not reading chart. Would be helpful if airport put up a sign stating that 34L access via taxiway left is for aircraft of 25000 pounds or less. Flight went on to dfw with no problems, and we had aircraft inspected for damage -- none noted.
