Narrative:

Flying west, inbound to den at FL200, observed a TA (yellow) alert on TCASII of an aircraft nebound, but did not have a visual sighting of the aircraft. About 1 min later, received an RA (red) pull up alert (maximum pull up indication). After what seemed about 3 seconds, disconnected the autoplt and began climb and advised the center. The alert ended at about FL283, our climb stopped at 28450 ft and I saw the other aircraft at our 12 O'clock position. TCASII indicated that the other aircraft was at FL272. Descended back to FL280.
