Narrative:
After takeoff, heard loud thump right side of aircraft. We noted a constant medium pitch oscillating sound, engine instruments normal, no airframe vibrations or flight control problems. We returned to san diego and landed on runway 27. At the gate, maintenance advised us of a bird strike/ingestion in the right engine, and the flight was cancelled. Recommend to all pilots that make a return to departure airport after takeoff to request emergency equipment on landing. What you do not know may hurt you. What if the engine failed?
