Narrative:
I flew the localizer 4 approach to clovis municipal and landed at approximately XA00. As I started braking I began to slide, so I let the aircraft slow with very light braking. The icy runway combined with the direct tailwind made it difficult to slow the aircraft on the available runway. Later in the day I noticed the wind seemed to be blowing the AWOS. In the past the AWOS has been occasionally unreliable and notamed as unreliable in wind direction and speed. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states the NOTAM had been in effect for about 6 weeks. Now back in service and seems fairly accurate. Quite often AWOS states information missing. Reporter guesses it is smart enough to know when not accurate and just leaves it out. Reporter made suggestion to use cannon AFB as a WX xchk since it is only 10 mi away. Tower part time so not always available, but could be helpful.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AWOS GIVES INCORRECT WIND DIRECTION AND SPD INFO. ACFT LANDS WITH TAILWIND.
Narrative: I FLEW THE LOC 4 APCH TO CLOVIS MUNICIPAL AND LANDED AT APPROX XA00. AS I STARTED BRAKING I BEGAN TO SLIDE, SO I LET THE ACFT SLOW WITH VERY LIGHT BRAKING. THE ICY RWY COMBINED WITH THE DIRECT TAILWIND MADE IT DIFFICULT TO SLOW THE ACFT ON THE AVAILABLE RWY. LATER IN THE DAY I NOTICED THE WIND SEEMED TO BE BLOWING THE AWOS. IN THE PAST THE AWOS HAS BEEN OCCASIONALLY UNRELIABLE AND NOTAMED AS UNRELIABLE IN WIND DIRECTION AND SPD. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THE NOTAM HAD BEEN IN EFFECT FOR ABOUT 6 WKS. NOW BACK IN SVC AND SEEMS FAIRLY ACCURATE. QUITE OFTEN AWOS STATES INFO MISSING. RPTR GUESSES IT IS SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW WHEN NOT ACCURATE AND JUST LEAVES IT OUT. RPTR MADE SUGGESTION TO USE CANNON AFB AS A WX XCHK SINCE IT IS ONLY 10 MI AWAY. TWR PART TIME SO NOT ALWAYS AVAILABLE, BUT COULD BE HELPFUL.
