Narrative:

The long runway (8/26) was closed at abq. Had to use runway 35 due to winds (320/18). Maximum allowable takeoff weight was 93800 pounds, which caused a landing fuel weight of 3900 pounds at lax. Agreed verbally with dispatch to launch and reassess fuel situation once airborne. Used the drake VOR (about halfway) as a decision point to divert or continue. Fuel was recomputed ahead of scheduled burn -- landing fuel in excess of 4400 pounds, but due to an extended off course vector away from desired direct routing, I diverted to phoenix because my personal comfort level had been exceeded. Refueled, refiled, and continued.
