Narrative:
Departing auburn airport with a fellow instructor's instrument student (while the other instructor was on vacation) the student made a radio call announcing our intentions to depart runway 16 straight out, after we had both made a brief attempt to determine the approach path clear of inbound traffic. An aircraft announced short final as the student started to taxi onto the runway. The student did not hear the radio call and continued. I heard the call and now saw the traffic and told the student 'we have traffic on final.' the student said 'oh south___' and applied full power to make an immediate takeoff. The pilot of the aircraft must have been feeling quite put out because he seemed to have applied full power for a go around, but continued to descend and gain speed until he was right along side us in a formation position and thanked us over unicom frequency for the opportunity to practice his go around procedures, before pulling up abruptly and turning crosswind.

Title: PLT MADE TKOF IN FRONT OF LNDG TFC AT A UNCTLED ARPT.
Narrative: DEPARTING AUBURN ARPT WITH A FELLOW INSTRUCTOR'S INST STUDENT (WHILE THE OTHER INSTRUCTOR WAS ON VACATION) THE STUDENT MADE A RADIO CALL ANNOUNCING OUR INTENTIONS TO DEPART RWY 16 STRAIGHT OUT, AFTER WE HAD BOTH MADE A BRIEF ATTEMPT TO DETERMINE THE APCH PATH CLR OF INBOUND TFC. AN ACFT ANNOUNCED SHORT FINAL AS THE STUDENT STARTED TO TAXI ONTO THE RWY. THE STUDENT DID NOT HEAR THE RADIO CALL AND CONTINUED. I HEARD THE CALL AND NOW SAW THE TFC AND TOLD THE STUDENT 'WE HAVE TFC ON FINAL.' THE STUDENT SAID 'OH S___' AND APPLIED FULL PWR TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE TKOF. THE PLT OF THE ACFT MUST HAVE BEEN FEELING QUITE PUT OUT BECAUSE HE SEEMED TO HAVE APPLIED FULL PWR FOR A GAR, BUT CONTINUED TO DSND AND GAIN SPD UNTIL HE WAS RIGHT ALONG SIDE US IN A FORMATION POS AND THANKED US OVER UNICOM FREQ FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO PRACTICE HIS GAR PROCS, BEFORE PULLING UP ABRUPTLY AND TURNING XWIND.
