Narrative:

I flew a part 141 chief flight instructor check ride on jun/fri/92. I assumed this would meet the CFI renewal requirements. However, I did not make application for a CFI renewal. Having checked the applicable FARS I believe I may have allowed my CFI certificate to lapse (certificate indicates oct/sat/92 expiration). I attended a CFI refresher in jan/93. I gave instruction between oct/92 and mar/93 when I applied for my renewal. More clarity in the FARS as to what must be done to renew a CFI certificate versus what requirements must be met.

Title: FLT INSTRUCTOR BELIEVES HIS CHIEF FLT INSTRUCTOR CHK FLT RENEWS HIS FLT INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATE. INSTRUCTS WITH EXPIRED CERTIFICATE.

Narrative: I FLEW A PART 141 CHIEF FLT INSTRUCTOR CHK RIDE ON JUN/FRI/92. I ASSUMED THIS WOULD MEET THE CFI RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS. HOWEVER, I DID NOT MAKE APPLICATION FOR A CFI RENEWAL. HAVING CHKED THE APPLICABLE FARS I BELIEVE I MAY HAVE ALLOWED MY CFI CERTIFICATE TO LAPSE (CERTIFICATE INDICATES OCT/SAT/92 EXPIRATION). I ATTENDED A CFI REFRESHER IN JAN/93. I GAVE INSTRUCTION BTWN OCT/92 AND MAR/93 WHEN I APPLIED FOR MY RENEWAL. MORE CLARITY IN THE FARS AS TO WHAT MUST BE DONE TO RENEW A CFI CERTIFICATE VERSUS WHAT REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET.
