Narrative:
While en route to lga at FL370, we experienced a hydraulic 'green system' (#1 system) failure. ECAM message and system page showed loss of fluid. We disabled our ptu and the #1 engine pump as per our communication. Since we need to increase our landing and had lost normal brakes, some spoilers, #1 engine reverser, automatic brakes, and nosewheel steering, we diverted to ewr (original destination was lga). We declared an emergency and proceeded to ewr for a landing on runway 4R. We landed normally, stopping 2/3 down the runway. We were towed to the gate. Maintenance informed me that we had less than 1 gallon of fluid remaining.
